Music in the heart of Le Mans
The Musica Festival has the aim of taking lyrical music out of its usual closed spaces and opening it up to the widest possible audience. Thus, the Parc de Tessé, a wonderful haven of greenery in the heart of the city, becomes the favourite place for exceptional concerts. There, chamber orchestras or smaller groups of musicians accompany world-renowned singers performing the greatest opera arias. This year, concerts will also be held in the gardens of Saint-Julien Cathedral and at the Equestrian Centre of Changé.
A dream programme
Under the artistic direction of soprano Diane Higbee, iconic works will follow one after another, including Thaïs by Massenet and The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart, as well as Viennese waltzes by Strauss and Herbert. You can also opt for the astonishing Nuits d’été (Summer Nights) by Berlioz, for which the string quartet and the soprano will share the spotlight with the horses of the equestrian centre! It’s sure to be an enchanting occasion. Finally, don’t miss the moving Romeos and Juliets, in which the singers take turns to interpret the roles of the star-crossed lovers from the scores by Bellini, Prokofiev, Gounod, Bernstein and more.
